Website!

Well, I now have my website up and running!

exciting, no?

Anyway, it may be a little crude but I did it all myself so I'm quite proud, also you can get to every page of the website straight from my blog just by using the navigation bar on the left side of the page.

So... please take a look, even if it is fleeting.

An Overdue Photograph

A photo of my work up in the degree show, it's a bit overdue but it's here... Still hoping someone will send me some pics of the show at D&AD as I didn't take any myself.

Cherry Cherry

Remember those silly old greetings cards I made? no? well, if you need reminding take a look in Cherry Cherry, a lovely little shop down Lower Goat Lane that is now stocking them. Plus I also have a new design, Stylish Bob (no relation to Silent Bob...... or Sideshow Bob):

The shop features works by lots and lots of illustrators including some of my fellow students at NUCA; Nicole & Michaela.

Also if you do pop down to the shop then while you're there you might as well pop across the road to the perfect pad which has an illustration exhibition running upstairs which just happens to feature work by Kate Seaward, who also just happens to own Cherry Cherry (small world, eh?), and a number of illustrators from NUCA past and present.

D&AD New Blood

Probably should have posted either before the exhibition started or on the first day but meh....

So, as well as the degree show my work has also been on show at the D&AD New Blood exhibition down in old London town at the Old Truman Brewery. Our course's illustration stand was number 40-something near the hub, though the numbers are a little out of order because we had to swap some of the signs around.... (woops!).

anyway... some pictures of my work on show at both exhibitions may make it blogwise soon, i hope.

Degree Shows 2010

Final exhibition starts tomorrow-ish, private view is 5.30 and then the show is open to the public from wedsneday 23rd to tuesday 29th (excluding sunday). Every day is open 10am to 4pm so if you live in or near Norwich then come and see my work!
All the illustration cohort is exhibiting in the gallery space and the sculpture studio just behind it so you can find it straight off the street without walking around the uni getting lost, which kind of means you have no excuse not to come, ha!

The business cards have arrived!

I love getting post! It's like a mini christmas or birthday having something to unwrap.... unless it's a bill.

Anyway, today my business cards arrived from the printers, and i must say, I'm very impressed. I got them from moo.com where you can upload an image for the back and up to 100 images for the front giving you complete control over the design (unlike some places). For the small cost the quality is really good, even the packaging they were delivered in is nice. I got 10 different designs myself to show off a variety of my work as you can see below.

These, plus my new suit and the vast amount of money framing is costing me makes me feel very posh, if a little out of pocket.

As promised...

... a picture of my work laid out for assessment.

An end of an era...

... nearly

Well, last wednesday was assessment hand in time at uni, which is why I've been very quiet on the blogging front. So anyway i thought I'd show you some of what I handed in, particularly my A Clockwork Orange project which I've mentioned a few times before but not shown you poor little buggers.

So, this here is my nine final spreads arranged in a nice little grid, and below the same spreads individually for your viewing pleasure...

and finally, the dust jacket for the book, you'll need to use your imagination if you want to know what it looks like around a hard back book...

I did take some pictures of my work all laid out on a table for assessment, alas these were taken on another chaps camera though and so it could be a while until these are uploaded.
Anyway, at the moment it does feel a bit strange with uni pretty much ending now, but it's all a bit wierd because i still have to put up my end of year show which is a lot of work. So basically it's all over, but its not...

Something Old, Something New, and something old again....

Well... where to start?

Clutter City was last saturday, though I couldn't make it there myself I did put in a large amount of last minute work on friday (including missing lunch!) to get some cards made to sell on a stall a fellow No-Folk member Nicole had there. It's the second time she's had a stall there which a small number of No-Folkers contribute to but the first time I've contributed myself. It's also the first time I've put any of my work up for sale in some way other than the No-Folk blind auction and so seeing that some of my cards actually sold is a nice confidence boost. I had three cards for sale, Willjill, Steve The Dinosaur and an updated version of Phillipo The Flamingo that you can see below:

Anyway, this new foray into card making has proven to be addictive and so an illustration I was working on for my A Clockwork Orange project has also been converted into a design for a card and will soon get the posh printing and packaging, anyway meet Angelica An Angel:

Now it's seems anything I find on my mac or pen-droves etc seems to get played around with to see if it could potentially be made into a card, most recently being the bird which was the first thing I ever posted on my blog and is unfortunately still without a name.... anyway, not sure about this one still.

All Creatures Great & Small

Well.... Projects have been developing slowly recently due to mostly indecisiveness and a lot of other reasons that i can't exactly put into words, however I do have pictures that apparently can tell more than a thousand words. These are the products of my labour and avoidance of working on real projects. I have no idea why I made them, what they are for et cetera, et cetera, however I do know I enjoyed making them and like where this spontaneity is taking my work, it's just a shame that the same cannot be said for my real projects.

Above, is Steve the dinosaur, no idea why he's called Steve or even why he's striped, spotty or blue, but I like him. Below, is Phillipo the Flamingo, his name is borrowed from a nickname of a friend named Phil who in turn borrowed it from a brand of olive oil.... Unfortunately the scan doesn't do the water justice.

On a side note I've been noticing a heavy use of magenta, cyan and white in my work recently which has me slightly worried that everything is beginning to look like a big mush of sameyness. Even the little head way I am making in my A Clockwork Orange project is using this colour scheme in the dust jacket, which is why, despite it nearing completion none of it's imagery has made it to the webternet yet, at least I have resisted using orange...

As for the publication project, well that's taken a big setback due to a format change which is kind of annoying but alas, that is the way of the world. On the subject of publication i found some other work for it has made it blogwise so have updated my previous post accordingly.
Anyway, that's all for now. bye.

Willjill

And so, term time has begun again so its straight back into working hard as if easter never happened, that being working on the brief for the No-Folk publication which is a joint project between us, each illustrating a phrase from where we are from. Mine is "Willjill" which is a term to describe someone when you're not quite sure if they are a gentleman or a lady.

If you're interested in what else might be appearing in the No-Folk publication then take a look at: Benedict's first and second piece, Ben's and Michaela's. There's some other really nice work floating around for it too that doesn't seem to have made it blogwise yet so keep an eye out.

Look! A Bird!

Well, it took longer than a few days because I had to get a lot of procrastination done first but I finally got an image uploaded. Anyway I made this bird way back on monday 23rd of March before I even started the blog but have only just scanned it in. its collaged sheets of acetate painted with acrylic.

Alas, he doesn't have a name, so if anyone can come up with one I like they get the grand prize of feeling smug.

Friday, 26 March 2010

Well.... Finally got around to setting up a blog.

Will be a few days before i get it fully set up and have some pictures and stuff so just posting this so it's not a blank page.

Anyway, I'm here now, hello!
